Sowohl im Rahmen von Forschungsprojekten als auch im kommerziellen Umfeld findet die Integration des konventionellen Telefonnnetzes mit dem Internet aktuell eine sehr grosse Beachtung. Während dabei eine Reihe von Anstrengungen (insbesondere unter dem Schlagwort ,,IP-Telefonie'') daraufhin ausgerichtet sind, das Internet als Übertragungssystem für Telefonanrufe zu nutzen, erweitert der von uns vorgestellte Ansatz den durch eine Reihe von Faktoren nach wie vor limitierten Anwenderkreis Internet-basierter Multimedia-Anwendungen auf den der Nutzer des konventionellen Telefonnetzes.
